It is now probably the biggest collection of Hello World programs on the Internet, and the only one collecting human languages as well. It was started on, put on the Internet on 3, exceeded 200 entries on 1, 300 on, and 400 on 2. ![]() The Collection was compiled by Wolfram Rösler with help from many people around the world. For a collection of programs that tell more about what programming in the languages actually is like, have a look at the 99 Bottles of Beer collection. They are meant to demonstrate how to output Hello World as simply as possible, not to show off language features. The programs in this collection are intended to be as minimal as possible in the respective language. This collection includes 421 Hello World programs in many more-or-less well known programming languages, plus 63 human languages. Since then, Hello World has been implemented in just about every programming language on the planet. The first Hello World program appeared in chapter 1.1 of the first edition of Kernighan & Ritchie's original book about C, "The C Programming Language", in 1978 and read like this: I am still not comfortable with custom components though."Hello World" is the first program one usually writes when learning a new programming language. I have programmed in Delphi 6/7 and VB6 so I do know that delphi (also Lazarus) is more powerful. so, 1) I am curious how the state of basic is and 2) I am also curious as to how these new basic fares with Lazarus or vice versa. I have also read that basic today is much more powerful than the basic of yesteryears. I did some googling and found out that basic(in various flavors) is still alive. I also noticed that basic is missing in the above link. I also came across this link and am happy to see here that Lazarus, excluding FPC, is favored(preferred or liked) over Delphi by 5.6X. Given the popularity(not superiority) of VB6 I do wonder why there are no VB6 "clones" or look-a-likes although that is not really something to discuss in this forum. I have no formal programming background, am self-taught, so google(and this forum) is the only place where I can ask questions (to keep myself updated). I do know that there is no simple conversion process but I am not proficient enough to translate them into lazarus.Ģ) I still haven't find time to really do some programming as of now and I just goggle once in a while to update myself. But I do have some commercial source codes in Visual Basic 6 and VB3 andġ) sometimes wonder if it would be worthwhile to convert some of them to another basic language. ![]()
